Oral Questions for Nerve and Muscle

Answer the following questions taking into consideration that some questions are designed just to test your way of thinking.

1. What is the role of Na ions in the physiology of nerve and muscle.

(Notice: try to collect the correct answer from different areas)

2. What is the effect of denervation on both nerve and muscle supplied?

(Notice: try to collect the correct answer from different areas)

3. Why the nerve obeys the all or none law?

4. Why normally nerve conduction occurs in one direction only? When conduction occurs in both direction?

5. What is the function of myelin sheath?

6. Normally, which type of muscle contraction we use on lifting a weight? Why?

7. What is the differences between muscles of normal and athlete persons?

Following are other easy Qs that are frequently asked.

8. Structure and functions of the neuron.

9. Difference between nerve and nerve fiber.

10. Classification of nerve fibers.

11. Properties of the nerves.

12. Define Stimulus, threshold, local excitatory state, Chronaxie, Rheobase, CRO, equilibration potential, conductance, depolarization, repolarization, hyperpolarization, ARP, RRP, salutatory conduction, orthodromic conduction, antidromic conduction, motor unit, MEP, EPP, MEPP, myasthenia gravis, Treppe or staircase phenomenon, spike potential, Rigor mortis.

13. Causes of RMP, AP phases.
14. Factors affecting excitability of nerve and muscle.
15. Properties of neuromuscular transmission.
16. What is meant by parasympathomimetic s, parasympatholytics? Give examples of each.
17. What is the composition of the actin filaments?
18. What is the difference between isometric and isotonic contraction?
19. How many types of the muscles you know? What characteristics of each?
20. Why muscle fatigue occurs?
21. What are the differences between smooth and skeletal muscle?

Oral Questions for ANS

Answer the following questions taking into consideration that some questions are designed just to test your way of thinking.

1. Classify and compare different parts of the nervous system. At least mention 3 classification system.

(Notice: try to collect the correct answer from different areas)
2. Is there sympathetic vasodilator fibers? If yes where they are found?
3. Mention the main neurotransmitters of the ANS, their site of release, their receptors, their formation and degradation and their main functions.

(Notice: try to collect the correct answer from different areas)

4. How can sympathetic stimulation or adrenaline injection decreases arterial blood pressure and how can stimulation of injection of A.Ch. increases arterial blood pressure?

(Notice: try to collect the correct answer from different areas)

5. Can atropine block autonomic ganglia transmission, or block oculomotor effect on medial rectus or pupilloconstrictor muscles? Why?

6. Why sympathetic ganglia are lateral or collateral and not terminal?

Following are other easy Qs that are frequently asked.

7. Define, classify, and mention functions of autonomic ganglia.

8. Classify and compare the autonomic nervous system.

9. What is Horner's syndrome?
10. Classify and mention usage of different autonomic acting drugs. What are the action of the following drugs: Atropine, NE, pilocarpine, eserine, prostigmine, nicotine, curare and muscarine.

11. What are effects of stimulation of greater splanchnic nerve, lesser splanchnic nerve, cervical sympathetic fibers, oculomotor nerve, facial nerve, ophthalmic division of the trigeminal nerve, glossopharyngeal nerve, vagus nerve, pelvic nerve?

Oral Questions for Blood

Answer the following questions taking into consideration that there is NO one single correct answer, i.e. some questions may have more than a correct answer.

Notice also that some questions are designed just to test your way of thinking.

1. Why lymphocytes are formed in both bone marrow and other tissues, while all other blood cells are formed only in bone marrow?

2. Why it is important to separate plasma proteins?

3. Why the reticuloendothelial system (RES) was renamed to be mononuclear phagocyte system (MNPS)? In your opinion which is more descriptive to the term?

4. Why edema usually occur in patients with heart, renal or liver diseases? (Notice: try to collect the correct answer from different subjects)

5. What is physiologic anemia? How and why it occurs?

6. Why ESR is considered a prognostic but not diagnostic test?

7. Why interpretation of abnormal Hb values should be taken with careful thinking?

8. Why vitamin-B12 deficiency anemia is called pernicious anemia?

9. How can you diagnose a case of anisocytosis?

10. How can you use simple tests to differentiate between the major three types of anemia?

11. Explain why the number of lymphocytes is much less than that of neutrophils although their function is much important than neutrophils.
