QUESTION
Why objects are seen colored
==============
ANSWER
Objects appear in different colors because they absorb some colors (wavelengths) and reflected others . The colors we see are the wavelengths that are reflected
For example, a red shirt looks red because it absorbed the wavelengths of light except Red light which is the only light that is reflected

White objects appear white because they reflect all colors
Black objects absorb all colors so no light is reflected

Why pilots wear red glasses during flight?
==========================
By using red lights, or wearing red goggles, the cones can receive enough light to provide photopic vision (namely the
high-acuity vision required for reading). The rods are not saturated by the bright red light because they are not sensitive to long-wavelength light, so the pilots remain dark adapted i.e.  pilots can read their instruments and maps while maintaining night vision to see outside the aircraft.

i.e.

For maximum utilization of scotopic vision ( a vision of eye in low light), 20 to 30 minutes in total darkness are required to attain satisfactory retinal dark adaptation. An alternative is to have the pilot wear red goggles for 20 to 30 minutes before flying. When worn in normal illumination, red goggles will not interfere significantly with the ability to read most maps, charts, manuals,etc., as long as the printing is not in red ink. Red goggles block all light except red, which enhances rod
dark adaptation because red light does not stimulate the scotopic system

Q: What are the types of monochromacy
======

A: Monochromacy includes
Cone monochromacy: This rare form of color blindness results from a failure of two of the three cone cell photopigments to work. There is red cone monochromacy, green cone monochromacy, and blue cone monochromacy. People with cone monochromacy have trouble distinguishing colors because the brain needs to compare the signals from different types of cones in order to see color. When only one type of cone works, this comparison isn’t possible. People with blue cone monochromacy, may also have reduced visual acuity, near-sightedness, and uncontrollable eye movements, a condition known as nystagmus. Cone monochromacy is an autosomal recessive disorder.

Rod monochromacy or achromatopsia: This type of monochromacy is rare and is the most severe form of color blindness. It is present at birth. None of the cone cells have functional photopigments. Lacking all cone vision, people with rod monochromacy see the world in black, white, and gray. And since rods respond to dim light, people with rod monochromacy tend to be photophobic – very uncomfortable in bright environments. They also experience nystagmus. Rod monochromacy is an autosomal recessive disorder.
